How to Become a Precinct Committeeman

What is a Precinct Committeeman?

A city, town, or county is divided into precincts, each consisting of a voting place. When a person casts their vote in person, they go to their local precinct to cast their vote.

Each precinct has at least 1 GOP precinct committeeman. The precinct committeeman represents the GOP in that precinct. All of the precinct committeemen within the city or county (unit) are members of the unit committee. In Virginia, for example, there are 132 unit committees throughout the state. The position of Precinct Committeeman is either elected or appointed.

A precinct committeeman is the grassroots of the Republican Party.  It is also a good place to start for people interested in running for political office.

Responsibilities of a Precinct Committeeman

  • Get Out The Vote (GOTV)
  • Distribute Campaign Literature
  • Attend Unit Meetings
  • Assist in Voter Registration
  • Help Elect Republican Candidates
  • Provide Voter Education
  • Vote for Precinct Committee Chairman

How to Become a Precinct Committeeman

A precinct committeeman is an elected position. The typical requirements are that you are a registered voter in the precinct for which you want to be a committeeman, you request a committeeman form from the precinct chairman, gather a number of signatures, return the completed form, and then you are voted on for the position. Often these positions are uncontested. If you are applying when an upcoming election is not scheduled, you may be appointed to the position.

  1. I am from Northeastern Pennsylvania, a Pro-Life Republican who is sickened by the last election, and the manifestations of past stolen elections in our area. I would like to help in any way I can. I am also in the same general area of the owner of GAB (he lives in Clarks Summit, I am about 10 miles away in Dunmore-very close to Scranton, Pa. – please don’t confuse that with Biden enthusiasts!). If we are able to enlist the help of GAB, especially in this area, we certainly could Stop the Steal. Unfortunately, I do not know him, but he is a Trump enthusiast. On GAB, I go by the name of Tess208@aol.com. I would like to help in anyway I can-I am older, so people may not be as suspicious as perhaps they should! I am an experienced Pro-Life Protester. Thank you.

    1. Dave, your best bet would be to call the state Republican party at (425) 460-0570. Here’s their website, but they don’t have info on Precinct Committeemen listed. https://wsrp.org/. You also might check with Dan Shultz https://theprecinctproject.wordpress.com/. He has the video from when he was on Bannon’s War Room and a lot of info about becoming a Precinct Committeeman. You can post a question at the bottom of his page if you need more info. Thanks for being willing to help.

  2. is this different than a delegate? I served as a delegate for one term but I did not like it. it was dog eat dog and that’s not for me. I am a very positive person, a great speaker and a real people person. I am a conservative Republican living in south Lyon Michigan and I want to do whatever I can to make sure that we take back the house and senate and stop the madness!

  3. I live in Stafford, VA and have had enough. Watching this election being stolen from the American people right in front of our eyes, and the establishment uniparty RINOs being in on it, made me sick to my stomach. How can I get in my local precinct to get rid of the RINOs?

  4. Hi, I live in Onondaga County, NY state. I have been an election inspector since 2016. I’m disgusted with the 2020 stolen election. Not happy with Congressman Katko, either. Any suggestions on where I can help? Audrey Clark, Skaneateles, NY

    1. Andrew, I have a couple of suggestions.

Here’s the link for all the state GOPs. https://conservativeactioncenter.com/library/GOP/

Find your state and see if they list the local districts and if the districts have the info about becoming a precinct chairman on their site. Sometimes it’s on the state GOP site and a lot of time it is on neither.

If you can’t find the specific info on the state or local site, try contacting Dan Schultz (coldwarrior@gmail.com). Dan is the originator of the idea of taking over the Party by becoming precinct chairmen. His website is: https://theprecinctproject.wordpress.com/

      Good luck.

  5. I live in Cape May County in New Jersey and I would like to apply for Precinct committee men and I left an email with the GOP website but I don’t know what to do from this point and I would love some help thank you

  6. Moved to Las Vegas. Signed up for membership to Clark County Republican Party. My name and 100’s of others that signed up were not noted on list of new members to be voted in on scheduled meeting. They postponed the last meeting claiming Proud Boy threats. The current CCRP leadership are anti-Trump and not acknowledging voter fraud. They are using selective membership to control their anti-American agenda.

    1. Jennifer Silletto

      Hi Wendy,

My husband also tried to do what you are doing and he said he could not find anything on Clark county website. He said it seemed like they are intentionally not allowing new people in to be precinct committeeman. He is so busy with work he has me tasked to find out where he can go. Can you please email me at jennifer.silletto@gmail.com so that we can work together? I sent an email to moreinfo@clarkgop.org and left a VM today but don’t know if I will hear back.

      1. I live in Jasper County Iowa and have tried to get info on becoming Precinct Committeemen and sent emails have not received a response. If you could give me some direction, I would like to get involved.
        Thank You

  8. I just listened to Dan on Brannon’s WarRoom. I am in Green Lake Wisconsin and huge MAGA Trump supporter. I went to 5 of his rallies in 2015-16 and have 2 verified millennials who are influencers with millions of followers. I want to because more education and become a precinct committeeman in Green Lake Wisconsin. Do I simply go to a meeting or do I have a specific person to contact? I also will get my MAGA conservative church members to fill PC spots in their homes all over Wisconsin.

  9. I’m in Clark County, Nevada (Las Vegas), and I attempted to attend the Clark County Republican Central Committee (CCRCC) meeting in July, but non-members were not allowed in – despite their bi-laws requiring that we attend two meetings before we can become a member. There were hundreds there like me. The CCRCC called the police on us – it was ridiculous. Everyone was peaceful.
I paid my $25 processing fee and mailed my application to their headquarters (certified return receipt requested), but they never signed for the mail and it was returned to me.
Any suggestions? The CCRCC has gone dark. It seems they’re meeting in secret. The kicker is… Wayne Allyn Root is a member.
I don’t know how to connect with others or what to do next. Thank you for what you’re doing.

  10. Hello, I’m a member of NLA and have read some of Dan Schultz’s materials on filling precinct vacancies. I recently moved to Loudoun County Virginia which is purple. The GOP here is mostly rino so I’m trying to go through the back door to see what I can find out. If you have any information on what’s open and how to slay the tiger I’d be grateful. God bless you.

  11. Thanks, is there a way to see if the committeeman position is filled? Given the landscape I suspect I’ll get a lot of smoke and no substance. From what I’m reading from others and even from Dan’s materials they can play the game of subterfuge with no recourse.

  12. I am a new resident to Hamblen County TN. My precinct is Fairview Margauritte District 6 precinct 1. I desire to be involved and fill a seat/vacancy. Any information, advice or tutelage you can offer that would/could mitigate mistakes in the pursuit of obtaining a position would be most appreciated.

    1. Hi David, I’m in Washington County (Johnson City). Have you been able to get involved in your local precinct? I’m trying to figure this out myself. Please give me a call or text at 865-748-7008, I’d love to chat. America First! Dan Springer

Hi – I want to help do something. I have been writing my representatives from Texas on all issues that concern me. I am sickened seeing what is happening to America – especially the brainwashing of our children. I don’t do well at speaking and am timid. What would you suggest I do as a super conservative Texan?

  15. I’m 75 , a Vietnam vet, a true America First Conservative !!! I reside in Northamptn Co, PA I’m just beginning my search to become a precinct committee person. So far I believe I’ve contacted the rite person! She was extremely personable, knowledgeable and we are going to meet next week. I will share any helpful info from her as to how this process works, in a step by step format. I’m hoping it will be useful to all, after reading the previous comments. I’ll keep you posted on any progress !

  16. I want to become a committeeman. I am from Monroe County PA. The links posted are terrible and outdated. One is referring to the 2018 election as if it were still about to happen. Even the facebook pages are not kept updated. You would think a democrat was running them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  17. Tomorrow is the last day to sign up for Precinct Committee Person (PCP) in our county in Oregon. I do not feel good about it, although I want to help. I sense the hate and stepping on toes in politics, that I was happy to leave in workplaces. I retired 3 years ago and my last job was driving a truck, and I guess I’m just not ready. I’m not really a people person anyway, and hate the atmosphere of discord, manipulation, tricks and lies in politics. I look on the state website for political stuff and am further discouraged due to the cold, intimidation and confusion of it all. I’ve been encouraged by a couple friends in the republican party to sign on, but I am afraid to bite off more than I can chew, so I guess I won’t be signing up to the be on the ballot. Maybe another time when I feel more competent and know what I’m doing.

  18. Clarifying question. Two precinct persons per 1000 (one man and one woman) an additional two with ANY increment over a thousand. So if a precinct had a total of 2304 registered voters– that would be 3 men and 3 women correct??
    Is this the correct interpretation?

    1. I think it could be interpreted 2 ways:
      1) The way you interpreted it.
      2) 1 man and 1 woman for the 1st thousand and then any combination of men/women for the rest. Note it only specifies one man/one woman for the 1st thousand.

The intent may have been 1 man and 1 woman for each thousand or increment, but it wasn’t clearly written.
